300-Student Core Elementary School

schools

Alberta

FWBA Architects was one of three architectural firms invited by Alberta Infrastructure to design a standard K-6 Elementary Core School for the province. The conceptual design establishes the core of a school as the permanent building achieving a LEED Silver certification. The core design provides maximum flexibility within a standardized shell, by developing a large central space that houses key areas of the school, in a form that fosters community. This dynamic architectural form permits natural light to filter deep into the building interior, and ensures a unique and stimulating environment for students. While only mandated to LEED Silver, this design will achieve a LEED Gold certification at a lower per square foot cost than other core school designs developed at the time.
