Coalbanks Elementary School
The Copperwood Elementary School is a new K-5 600-student core school facility set to begin construction on the west side of Lethbridge. This project developed from a cancelled P3, and Lethbridge School District No. 51 found the opportunity in district managing the project, to review all of the earlier design parameters and enhance the ability of the school design to meet the needs of 21st Century learners. The heart of the new school is a large open gathering space and learning commons which is supported by two flexible project centres. These project centres provide storage, wet services, and most importantly, space and natural light for students to engage in project-based learning activities with their peers. The gym, music room, library, and administration also take advantage of a close relationship to the school core.
"FWBA and the rest of the consultant team put forth a strong design, which allowed Graham to complete the construction many months ahead of the contracted schedule. The project ran very smoothly through construction, due to our clear, open and honest communication. As a result, all issues onsite were resolved quickly and amicably, with no disputes by either side."
