Lethbridge Fire Hall Headquarters

Lethbridge, Alberta

The Lethbridge Fire Headquarters replaces the previous Lethbridge #1 Fire Hall, co-locating all administrative, inspection, Emergency and Disaster Services, and Public Safety Communications into one modern downtown facility. An aluminum bar-grate screen marks the three-storey entrance structure at the facility’s southwest corner and serves to shade the transparent circulation core from the intensity of the south sun. The screen also diffuses strong westerly winds permitting operable windows to assist in passively, and gently, ventilating the building. The fully-glazed third floor offers an abundance of daylight and expansive views of the coulees for the City’s 911 Service, and Public Safety Communications Centre. The siting, building envelope and systems, and modern architectural form of this three-storey major civic building express the dynamic program, and confirm the City of Lethbridge’s commitment to environmental responsibility and the revitalization of the downtown core.
