G.S. Lakie Middle School

Lethbridge, Alberta

The concept for the new G.S. Lakie Middle School in West Lethbridge, was to create a town-like atmosphere that would promote a sense of community within the school. The school design lays out three wings projecting from a central hub. This hub acts as the town square for the school community. Off of the town square each of the three wings acts as it’s own neighbourhood. Each neighbourhood contains six classrooms and serves one grade level. The individual wings also have their own Science Rooms as well as their own entrances. This school has been highly successful and the spaces have effectively helped support a thriving arts program.
