Raymond Junior/Senior High School Modernization

schools

Raymond, Alberta

The High School modernization in Raymond has created a renewed focal building for the community. There is an overall reduction of area to achieve efficiency, however among the new spaces, there is a bright gathering space associated with a 1000 seat gymnasium, and an adjacent renovated library at the heart of the school. Served by a new commercial kitchen, the gathering space has a series of doors opening onto a sheltered South-facing exterior courtyard at the main entry facade of the school. The plan derives its layout from a rationalization of requirements, and inspired by the existing modernist west classroom wing. The building shadowed LEED certification. To that end, mechanical systems and architectural features including temperature sensitive mechanically operating windows, durable material palette, and the reuse of existing components, are all designed to help achieve an environmentally sustainable building.
