Red Deer Recovery Community
health care
Reed Deer, AB
Winner of Architectural Excellence & Judge's Choice Awards
This project marked the first project as part of the recovery community program in Alberta, and consisted of a 45,500 sq. ft., 75-bed recovery facility for both male and female residents. Designed to offer holistic rehabilitation, it supports the re-learning and restoration of physical and emotional health. Along with dorm areas, it includes a commercial kitchen, dining spaces, administrative and medical offices, a gym/gathering area, and recreational zones. Programs within the facility deliver essential medical care, encourage social interaction, and promote physical activity, providing a safe and supportive environment.
The majority of this facility was constructed off-site at a modular manufacturing facility. This approach accelerated construction through simultaneous site preparation and assembly, while enhancing quality control and minimizing waste when compared to traditional methods. Developed in collaboration with Synergy Projects, the project emphasized a homelike atmosphere and a modern design that maximized the benefits of modular construction. Interior spaces prioritized comfort, incorporating minimal patterns to reduce distractions. Clerestory windows provided ample natural light in gathering areas, while smaller spaces featured windows strategically placed to enhance the resident experience.
The Red Deer Recovery project received the prestigious First Place award in the Permanent Modular Healthcare category, as well as the esteemed Judges Choice Award, the highest honor across all categories, at the World of Modular Awards of Distinction 2024.
