St. Mary's School

Taber, Alberta

The concept for the new St.Mary’s school was to create a village-like atmosphere that would promote a sense of community within the school. This was achieved by creating a Gathering Area central to the school and supporting a number of different functions. The open circulation concept utilized the same area of circulation space as found in a traditional school, and light was introduced through the use of clerestory windows. The Gathering Area, and related major spaces are effectively brought together to create a unique sense of place.
